Antique 19th Century Victorian superb pair of Renaissance Revival electrotype wall chargers, created by Elkington & Co. The design, named "The Seasons," was conceived by Léonard Morel-Ladeuil, a masterful French goldsmith and sculptor known for his legendary contributions to Elkington's portfolio. The shields reflect Morel-Ladeuil's artistry, showcasing reclining maidens in high relief along the border, each symbolising astrological signs. The central cavetto displays intricate griffin scrolls, ringed planets, and plaques representing the months. One charger, representing January through June, features putti flying around floral arrangements, while the other, symbolising July through December, is adorned with harvest motifs. Together, they offer a beautiful homage to the seasons.
Elkington & Co., known for its pioneering electroplating process, held Royal Warrants from Queen Victoria to King George VI. Morel-Ladeuil's collaboration with Elkington spanned 23 years, resulting in remarkable works such as this pair. One inscribed: "Presented to Miss Walker on her marriage by the employes of Peter Walker Esq. Liverpool."
Similar examples can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the works of other notable figures such as H.R.H. Prince Leopold and Bonamy Price. This set is also referenced in "The Museum and the Factory" by Alistair Grant and Angus Patterson on pages 84-87.

Liverpool"
